UX-driven navigation menus

UX copy is a holistic part of a website’s designed user journey. This carefully designed copy provides information about the sections and topics the visitor is navigating, appearing at the right time and expressing the brand voice and tone. It can appear as navigation menus, overview page descriptions and summaries, and copy around links, just to name a few.
While working on seic.com, I wrote quite a bit of UX copy. On this site, visitors must choose an audience section based on their broad market space. Once inside a section, it can be daunting to understand exactly what the company offers. The UX copy in the sub-navigation and overview pages had to communicate a lot of indirect information:

Clarify ambigous industry terminology, where one sector used a term differently than another.
Be visually sleek and use a consistent voice.
I first spent some time understanding the needs and challenges of our prospects, then crafted copy for navigation menus and overview pages to cue visitors to select the correct product, service, or insights.
It’s not just about hitting a character count. Each description shares a unified voice, descriptive phrase, and implied benefit.
